Traditionally, Kantha textiles from Bengal were functional and purposeful additions to the home. They would make them by hand over a long period for all family members, including multiple generations. Every family in Bengal had several Kanthas, which served everyone well. Many used them as coverlets during the mild winters and breezy monsoon nights.
They can also serve as a general home accessory—folded across the back of a sofa, as a bold wall hanging, or as upholstery for a headboard or a chair.
Both sides of this one-of-a-kind blanket is photographed. All made by hand in Bengal.
