Indigo Mudcloth Textile, #3

Mudcloth originated in northern Africa, specifically from MALI where this piece is from, in the Western Sahara region.Traditionally men waive narrow strips of fabric and stitch them together to create a larger canvas. Women then dye the whole piece using a technique called shibori to create different patterns, like in this case. Each pattern has a cultural, historic and geographic significance.
